About Us

Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

Tim Rogers

I became a believer at the age of 17 through the witness of a youth of group that took following Jesus seriously.  As a child my mom would read me Bible stories and I attended church sporadically and yet I wondered if the God of the Bible still did miracles, what kind of a person is He.  Even then God was pursuing me.

About two years after becoming a Christian I began teaching Sunday school.  But it would be in my college years that I would find myself basically in ministry as one of several team leaders of a dynamic singles ministry numbering over 90 people.

In the passing years I have been involved in three church plants, one as pastor.  All by the way failed.  I burned out the first time while involved in the singles ministry in college and the second time during my time as a pastor of the last church plant.  This is why I jokingly refer to myself as the patron saint of depression!

I am have been married to my wonderful wife Carolyn for 25 years and have a 17 year old son whom I love dearly named Daniel.  I have always been bi-vocational.  After 26 years as the manager of a B. Dalton Bookseller I am currently the Center Director of the Sylvan Learning Center of Danville and I have been pastor of Forest Lawn Baptist Church since 2006. I have a degree in History from Averett College with a minor in education.

My favorite pass times are playing guitar, reading, playing guitar, biking, playing guitar and working out.. when I am not playing guitar.
